Epidemiologische Studien zeigen, dass eine Exposition mit höher dosierter ionisierender Bestrahlung die Entwicklung kardiovaskulärer Erkrankungen (CVD) fördert. Mittlerweile gibt es auch Indizien für eine negative Wirkung einer chronischen Strahlenexposition mit niedrigen Dosen auf die Entwicklung und das Voranschreiten von CVD.
