Die Straßenbahnlinie 5 weist eine Länge von ca. 31 Kilometern auf und verkehrt seit 1971 durchgehend von der Stadt Halle (Saale) über die Orte Schkopau, Merseburg und Leuna bis nach Bad Dürrenberg. Ab dem 01. Januar 2025 wird der Streckenabschnitt der Linie 5 im Bereich zwischen HalleAmmendorf und Bad Dürrenberg durch den Saalekreisseparat beauftragt und auf Basis der neuen Liniengenehmigung als Linie 5 SK bezeichnet.
