Award notices are the most underused free resource in procurement. Read individually they tell you who beat you and at what price. Read in bulk they reveal which suppliers a buyer favours, what they actually pay against their published estimates, and how often incumbents are replaced.
They also give you a calendar. A notice recording a four-year contract awarded today tells you roughly when the re-tender will appear, which is the difference between preparing for a competition and reacting to one. And because they name the winner, they are how you identify prime contractors to approach about subcontracting on work you could not have won alone. Set up an alert on award notices in your categories alongside the one you run for open opportunities — the information arrives too late to bid on, and far too early to ignore.
