Bedrijven die concurreren op aanbestedingen voor architectuur en engineering moeten relevante portfolio-ervaring, gekwalificeerd personeel met de juiste registratie en de capaciteit om binnen de projecttijdlijnen te leveren, aantonen. Competentie in Building Information Modeling (BIM) wordt steeds vaker vereist voor grotere projecten. Duurzaamheidskeurmerken, waaronder ervaring met BREEAM- of LEED-certificering, bieden een concurrentievoordeel. MKB-bedrijven kunnen deelnemen via consortia of door zich te richten op kleinere gemeentelijke projecten die passen bij hun omvang en expertise.
